DAVID KWEKSILBER BIG BAND FEAT. LAURA BOHN
- Starts
- 20:30
The newest Dutch music by the thunderous DKBB! A special New Year’s Eve concert featuring American guest soprano Laura Bohn in a premiere of Studies in Description (composition: Luc Houtkamp).
A song cycle based on a cubistic book, Tender Buttons by female author Gertrude Stein: that means associative connections, assumed expectations, jazz, classical and pop ingredients and all rules out of the window. Stein and composer Luc Houtkamp realign our perspectives and present the apparent everyday reality in a fresh new way. Plus more surprising music from DKBB.
Experience the overwhelmingly rich sound, the energy and the enthusiasm of this big band featuring pioneering musicians from improvised as well as modern classical music. ‘Thanks to its regular gigs at the Bimhuis this group has amalgamated into a buzzing organic factory with a strong repertory. The enormous wealth of timbre is the strength of this company. The open attitude of all its members makes it an incredibly elastic ensemble. They’re very attractive to go see in concert because they play with so much joy’ (de Volkskrant).
Prior to the concert and afterwards: DJ/VJ Peter Kok with unique historical music and visuals.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
