Saturday Night Double Show

Colin Stetson Solo

Dazzling sonic architecture by one man and his saxophone, Colin Stetson, who previously collaborated with, among others, Arcade Fire, Tom Waits and David Byrne.

Colin Stetson is known as a true sensation on bass saxophone, which he transforms into a complete brass ensemble including percussion. The Canadian saxophonist has collaborated with, among others, Arcade Fire, Tom Waits and David Byrne. His hypnotic solo pieces include impressive circular breathing techniques, as well as amplification of the saxophone’s sounds by attaching small microphones to it. Stetson has previously played the BIMHUIS in various line-ups: solo, as a duo with violin player Sarah Neufeld, with expedrimental metal formation Ex Eye and with his project Sorrow, dedicated to Polish composer Henryk Górecki.

‘Stetson has manipulated extended techniques to create brilliantly inventive songs’ (Downbeat).

‘Stetson demolishes clichés to unleash fresh, unexpected energies. It’s like being inside an enormous brass tunnel full of windy byways and slamming valves, at once exhilarating and frightening’ (Pitchfork).

*Your ticket for Colin Stetson gives you free entrance to the concert of Shake Stew, which starts at 22:00.
