- 20:30
Saxophone player Peter Brötzmann, one of the founders of European free jazz, turns 70 this year. His name is synonymous with uncompromising adventure and unbridled energy on stage. His constantly transforming Chicago Tentet consists solely of leaders in the international improv scene, with saxophonist Ken Vandermark and cello player Fred Lonberg-Holm from Chicago as anchormen. ‘They lay down strata of sound that build into a towering monolith of whirling energy and glorious free interplay, taking the art of improvisation into hallowed levitation mode’ (The Wire).
