Chaerin Im Quartet

Indie pop meets improv by Korean jazz talent.

Chaerin Im is making a name for herself at lightning speed. Since moving to Amsterdam in 2017 to study jazz piano, the South Korean musician has developed into a versatile artist who refuses to be boxed in. Jazz, indie pop, expansive electronic soundscapes, it all comes together in her music. No wonder NRC named her one of the young artists to watch this season.

Now, for the first time, she leads her own group, featuring Siebren Smink on guitar, Matteo Mazzù on electric bass, and Ludvig Søndergaard on drums. Together, they recorded her debut album: Midnight resets. The record blends grooves, electronics, adventurous improvisation and light-footed melodies. The title track even features a kind of metal riff; anything goes in Chaerin Im’s world.

Outdoor concert
This terrace concert, in collaboration with the Muziekgebouw, takes place outdoors. Right by the water, sun and wind can be quite present, so come prepared. In case of bad weather (rain and/or strong winds), the performance will move indoors to the Entreehal, overlooking the IJ.
