The Bimhuis gives carte blanche to (bass) clarinet/saxophone player Joachim Badenhorst from Antwerp, who’s known from the Han Bennink Trio. He will open solo, after which several bands will perform.
Clarinet/saxophone player Joachim Badenhorst (Antwerp, 1981) has been following his own course in the Belgian and international jazz/improv scene in the last ten years. At the Bimhuis he has performed with Han Bennink Trio and Celano/Baggiani Group. He also plays in Tony Malaby’s Novela, Kris Davis’ Infrasound en Thomas Heberer’s Clarino. Alongside playing and composing in several ensembles he focuses on solo performances, which he has been doing for the past few years. This carte blanche concert will open with Badenhorst solo, followed by various ensembles which haven’t played at the Bimhuis before.
Rawfishboys, a duo with double bassist Brice Soniano, was founded at the Royal Conservaory of The Hague, where both musicians have studied. Rawfishboys balances between harmony and abstract sound explorations.
Os Meus Shorts stands for ‘my boxer shorts’ in Portuguese. The repertory consists of extremely short compositions by guitarist Nico Roig from Barcelona. A musical notebook.
Baloni was founded in New York, where the three musicians lived at that moment. From improvisation this trio has developed a rare chamber music-like serenity. Baloni has released three albums on the renowned label Cleanfeed.
Carate Urio Orchestra was Joachim Badenhorst’s dream: a big ensemble with a broad intrumental sound spectrum, a musical laboratory for experimentation with a wide variation of styles. The group has been working on a follow-up to the acclaimed debut album Sparrow Mountain, released on Badenhorst’s own label Klein. Website Carate Urio
