Brazilian rhythms, warm harmonies, merging voices: Cantorias brings you to faraway places and forgotten times. The band’s vocalists, Lilian Vieira, Femke Smit, Anna Serierse and Nina Rompa, bring close harmony from Brazil. Traditional protest songs, famous sambas, and original songs, with a nostalgic hint of the seventies and eighties and yet fully contemporary.
‘Cantoria’ means to break out in song, and ‘Cantorias’ is a party where people come together to sing. Alongside four singers, the band consists of four musicians who know their way around Brazilian styles such as bossa nova en Música Popular Brasileira. The band won the Edison in the category ‘Jazz Vocal National’ in October 2024 for their impressive debut album.
