BRAZILIAN SUMMER SESSIONS no.5 2010
- Starts
- 20:30
Beyond Ipanema sheds light on such innovative Brazilian music movements as Bossa Nova, Tropicália and Baile Funk by interviewing musicians and connoisseurs who include David Byrne, Bebel Gilberto, Devendra Banhart, M.I.A. and Caetano Veloso. There are sections dedicated to the comeback of psychedelic samba group Os Mutantes and the legendary Brazilian jazz concert at Carnegie Hall in 1961. The documentary is the perfect introduction to the concert of Moinho, the band featuring singer and actress Emanuelle Araújo. In their samba pop these young Brazilians revive the sambas from Bahia and Rio, created by the likes of Dorival Caymmi, Cartola and Novos Baianos.
Made possible by the Amsterdam Fonds voor de Kunst and VSB Fonds.
