Singer/guitarist Boubacar Traoré from Mali is hailed as the king of African blues. ‘A revelation… a plaintive evocative voice’ (The Guardian).
Boubacar Traoré is hailed as the king of African blues in his native Mali. His intimate songs radiate the simplicity of American blues, with harmonica and a warm voice, while his guitar sparkles like an African harp. The singer/guitarist scored hits in the 1960s but withdrew from public view, as author Lieve Joris describes in her book Mali Blues. In 1990 he finally reached an international audience. ‘A revelation… a plaintive evocative voice which stretches and climbs over threads of melody’ (The Guardian).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
