BIMlab

Surprising ‘first date’ between two musicians, who put together a group for an evening full of improvisation. This edition: saxophonist Ada Rave and drummer Tijn Jans.

BIMLAB is an improv series at the BIMHUIS café with unexpected musical encounters. Unbeknown to each other, two curators are selected from various corners of the jazz and improvised music scene for every edition. They will invite other musicians for an evening of short, adventurous sessions. At every edition they will give a free interpretation of one composition from the Dutch jazz canon. Curators for this edition are Ada Rave and Tijn Jans.

Ada Rave is a remarkable presence in the current improv scene of Amsterdam, as a saxophonist and composer. She grew up in Patagonia and cut her teeth in the Buenos Aires jazz scene. She has developed her distinctive, personal approach to the instrument through improvisation and a wide variety of unconventional techniques.

Drummer/composer Tijn Jans plays in a variety of bands: Luchtman, Maximalistica, Walk Tall, and his own project The Tight Jans +2. He has performed at North Sea Jazz and has toured through Germany, Spain, Italy and Scandinavia. He has shared the stage with, among others, Benjamin Herman, Michael Moore and Dave Douglas.
