Great saxophone fiesta featuring saxophone player Doug Webb from Los Angeles and Dutch Jazz heroes Tineke Postma and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen, fired on by the Rein de Graaff Trio.

‘Prof. Bop’ Rein de Graaff has brought over jazz heroes from the States to the Netherlands for decades now. This time tenor sax player Doug Webb meets Dutch sax players Tineke Postma and Sjoerd Dijkhuizen. Doug Webb distinguished himself in the Los Angeles jazz scene with his raw, soulful sound on tenor saxophone. He plays almost all sizes of saxophone and clarinet and almost all kinds of woodwind. No wonder he can be heard on hundreds of albums, by jazz artists such as Horace Silver and Quincy Jones and by world famous pop artists. He also played on the soundtracks of countless Hollywood blockbusters. ‘Webb morphs a gutsy attack with a raspy edge and soul-stirring chops’ (Jazz Review).

Tineke Postma plays contemporary jazz that resonates with audiences everywhere, from Japan to America. Her aim is to ‘fly’ on stage; to this end her examples are her former teachers Chris Potter and Dave Liebman. ‘Exceptionally bright and melodic solos. Postma plays with true conviction’ (de Volkskrant).

Sjoerd Dijkhuizen grew up with jazz and hard bop and made name as a tenor player in bands like New Cool Collective and Metropole Orchestra. His playing sounds timeless and is rooted in the tradition of the great saxophone maestros from the 1950s, such as Hank Mobley and Zoot Sims.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
