Apifera – Overstand

Electronic jazz on the forward-thinking American label Stones Throw Records.

Apifera sounds edgy and electronic, and at the same time their organic-sounding structures and harmonies reflect the natural world. The band is named after a variety of bee-attracting orchid. Their debut album Overstand has received praise from Mojo and The Wire, among others. The following 6 Visits EP contains interpretations of tracks by Madlib, Duke Ellington, Massive Attack, Prokofiev, Sunbear, McCoy Tyner, and Squarepusher.

Apifera is an asset to the roster of Stones Throw Records, the hip-hop- and jazz-oriented label founded by dj and vinyl specialist Peanet Butter Wolf from Los Angeles. The band includes no less than two keyboard wizards, Yuval ‘Rejoicer’ Havkin and Nitai Herskovits. The latter has previously performed on our stage, and became known as a band member with bassist Avishai Cohen. The collaboration of Rejoicer and Nitai can either sound wide and orchestral, or bizarre and psychedelic.
