ANDERSON / KEMENADE / GLERUM / BENNINK

American jazz trombonist and multiple Downbeat Critics Poll-winner Ray Anderson is back in the dream quartet of Paul van Kemenade featuring Ernst Glerum and Han Bennink.

Alto sax player Paul van Kemenade’s dream quartet is ‘a world class band that has everything you hope to hear at a jazz concert’ (de Volkskrant). The musicians effortlessly switch from swing to grooves and ballads.

The international ensemble unites trombonist and fivefold Downbeat Critics Poll winner Ray Anderson with three winners of the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize, namely Van Kemenade, drummer Han Bennink and double bassist Ernst Glerum. Several publications including the Jazz Times, Downbeat and The Guardian have praised their flexible ensemble playing.

‘Ray Anderson’s trombone chops have the strength of tensile steel and the flexibility of latex, and his technique allows him to play whatever ideas enter his mind. What enters it has large components not only of beauty but of whimsy and nonsense. In addition to the range of Yma Sumac and tonal variety approximating that of a 16-piece band, Anderson has taste’ (Jazz Times).
