Prior tot the 10th edition of the Red Light Jazz Festival, which takes place June 9, 10 and 11 at various locations in the city center of Amsterdam, we present an international supergroup at our venue. A dream quartet, that has been described by Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant as ‘a world class band that has everything you hope to hear at a jazz concert’. These top players effortlessly switch between everything that comes up between the four of them, from swing to grooves and ballads.
American trombone player and fivefold Downbeat critics poll winner Ray Anderson is obviously at ease with his Dutch soulmates. Alto saxophonist Paul van Kemenade, double bassist Ernst Glerum and drummer Han Bennink have each won the Boy Edgar Prize, the most prestigious Dutch jazz award.
‘A great band led by fine Dutch alto saxophonist Paul van Kemenade and witty Dutchman Han Bennink on drums… well, a single snare, to be precise, played colorfully with brushes, sticks and the occasional shoe’ (JazzTimes).
Paul van Kemenade alto sax, Ray Anderson trombone, Ernst Glerum double bass, Han Bennink drums.
