AMSTERDAM MARIMBA WEEKEND

Highlight of the three-day festival dedicated to the marimba, featuring trail-blazing international performers and composers. Initiator Tatiana Koleva presents the international guests and bands she invited for this festival.

The Amsterdam Marimba Weekend is all about the melodic percussion instrument marimba, welcoming virtuoso players as well as trail-blazing composers. Guests include American composer Gordon Stout, pioneering marimba soloist and teacher, Colombian ‘marimbero’ Hugo Candelario with traditional South American music accompanied by an all star band and Eric Sammut from France who has developed a unique style as a player and composer.

The new generation is also present: Dutch Frank Wienk, known from ‘Binkbeats’ & Slagwerk Den Haag shows the marimba from a complete other point of view: with electronics. The German Kai Strobel just received one of the most important prices during the International Marimba Competition in Linz, Austria. Koleva’s Youth Percussion Pool is also present together with special guest Lucas van Merwijk on drums and Samuel Ruiz on bass. All guests will perform together in different combinations.

Amsterdam Marimba Weekend was initiated by Tatiana Koleva and Henny van den Abbeelen (Pustjens Percussion Products).

The afternoon will be presented by Vera Vingerhoeds. She wrote the following article on the AMSTERDAM MARIMBA WEEKEND on her webiste. (Scroll down for English)
