Amsterdam Klezmer Band & Boi Akih

Amsterdam klezmer meets worldly folk jazz in a new concert series.

When it comes to klezmer and Balkan music, the Amsterdam Klezmer Bad (AKB) is considered a gamechanger all over the world, known for its original approach. In the new series AKB-LAB, the band looks for inspiration in unexpected corners. In this edition they welcome the duo Boi Akih, which blends folk and jazz with traditions from all over the world. Two groups with experience, who dare to reveal their sensitive side.

The warm voice of Monica Akihary and the inventive guitar playing of Niels Brouwer form the basis of Boi Akih, which brings together folk and jazz with Melanesian music. On the one hand in songs with lyrics by Akihary and compositions by Brouwer, and on the other hand in imaginative improvisations.

The Amsterdam Klezmer Band has been around for over twenty-five years. It was founded in Café De Nieuwe Lelie by front man Job Chajes and bassist Jasper de Beer, and grew into a formation with a marvelous live reputation, from Paradiso to The Concertgebouw, and from Sziget to Lowlands.
