Cinematic music by the duo featuring French sax player Matthieu Donarier and Albert van Veenendaal on prepared piano. ‘They make every note count’ (JazzFlits).

Pianist Albert van Veenendaal describes himself as a ‘visual musician’ because of the cinematic, epic character of his music. Improvisation and composition go hand in hand in his work. Prepared piano has his special interest, extending and transforming the sound of the grand piano. In 2009 he first performed with French saxophonist Matthieu Donarier, whose elegant style draws comparisons with Warne Marsh and Mark Turner. The Visible Ones, the most recent album by Planetarium, has been released by the renowned label Clean Feed.

‘They make every note count, nothing is redundant. The Frenchman’s soprano sax is bright and flawless (think Steve Lacy) and Van Veenendaal’s prepared piano has a pleasant, exciting rhythmic feel’ (JazzFlits).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
