AARON PARKS QUARTET
Sunday22 March 2015

Piano jazz of the new generation. Young American band led by ECM recording artist Aaron Parks, who’s recognized for his work with James Farm featuring Joshua Redman.

Aaron Parks, leading piano player of the new jazz generation, doesn’t shy away from classical influences, rock and hip-hop. He made his breakthrough with tightly executed, cinematic compositions on his Blue Note album Invisible Cinema. His recent solo album and ECM label debut Arborescence marks a turning point for Parks. Freely approaching the keyboard he tips his hat to great examples such as Bela Bartók, Paul Bley and Keith Jarrett. At the Bimhuis he will present a highly anticipated quartet performance.

Aaron Parks has played for a sold out Bimhuis several times in the group James Farm with Joshua Redman. Parks established himself as a pianist and composer playing with Terence Blanchard and as a sideman with countless contemporary jazz artists of name, including Christian Scott, Gretchen Parlato en Kurt Rosenwinkel.

‘However freely Parks might move between styles and atmospheres, the eleven pieces on Arborescence clearly have their own signature, as is the case with Parks’ earlier work. He’s the type of musician whose improvisations appear as compositions’ (Trouw).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
