BIMHUIS Records

Live recordings of ambitious multidisciplinary composition assignments, debut studio albums of artists in-residency and brand new work created in BIMHUIS Productions.

On BIMHUIS Records we release live and studio albums by artists with whom we have a special relationship. By artists with whom we have a rich history and with whom we would like to have a long-lasting future. Music written in residency at BIMHUIS Productions, or originated improvising on our stage. The scope, starting point and outcome are distinct for each project and every one of them is released in a special way. Find our catalog on our Bandcamp, where all albums are for sale.

REFLEX: Live at BIMHUIS
In 2022, BIMHUIS Productions invited four musicians to write new work for REFLEX. In this concert series, musicians present their view of the zeitgeist on our stage. Now, we’re releasing the unique evenings as live albums. After the enchanting REFLEX: Miraculous Layers by Sanem Kalfa, the dizzying REFLEX: A Forgotten Story… by Yoràn Vroom and the poeticREFLEX: Live at BIMHUIS by Alistair Payne’s, it’s Kit Downes’ turn. The British organist and pianists enters trippy dimensions of REFLEX: DR. SNAP. The full album will be released on April 26th. The single ‘Children with Pitchfork’ is out now everywhere.

Ground Wire
BIMHUIS Records presents Ground Wire by Hristo Goleminov. The album is the fruit of Hristo’s research into the aesthetics and compositional techniques of 17th and 18th century classical music from Europe. Listen to the full album on Bandcamp.

The classically trained saxophonist Hristo Goleminov moved from Portugal to Amsterdam to study jazz. At the Conservatory of Amsterdam, Goleminov researched how he could employ baroque music as a model for jazz composition. At BIMHUIS Productions, he expanded his research into a live repertoire and studio album. Goleminov became fascinated by counterpoint: a compositional technique with a focus on the mutual independence of musical voices, without losing cohesion. When he closed the books, he invited his octet to improvise based on his compositions. “A democratic creative process”. The result is the dazzling Ground Wire. The album was made possible with support by Fonds Podiumkunsten.

Intertwined
Kicking off a streak of releases in 2023 BIMHUIS Records presents: BIM 017 ‘Intertwined’ by Ella Zirina. The full album is out now on all streaming platforms.

In 2022 Ella Zirina (Latvia, 1997) wrote her debut album Intertwined in residence at BIMHUIS Productions. Intertwined’s creation started with Zirina’s guitar improvisations, which she developed with her trio. The residency gave Zirina the opportunity to compose for string quartet, which elevated the music into a brimming musical bouquet. The cherry on top are the guest performances by her mentor and acclaimed saxophonist, Tineke Postma. On the album, Zirina cycles through feeling misunderstood in a male-dominated jazz environment, fighting back, pedaling through periods of hopelessness and finding respite under summer sunsets in her home country, Latvia. The album was made possible with support by Fonds Podiumkunsten.
