Terence Blanchard is een van de grote jazztrompettisten van deze tijd. De vijfvoudige Grammy-winnaar uit New York leerde het vak naast zijn jeugdvriend Wynton Marsalis en hij wordt bejubeld door jongere collega’s als Roy Hargrove. Daarbij kan niemand om hem heen als filmcomponist; recent voltooide hij de soundtrack voor Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.
Maar Blanchard heeft bovenal de gave om verhalen te vertellen en diepe emoties los te maken. Zijn recente album LIVE (Blue Note) werd opgenomen in steden waar slachtoffers vielen in uit de hand gelopen conflicten tussen politieagenten en Afro-Amerikaanse burgers. Met dezelfde band, E-Collective, speelt hij nu in het BIMHUIS.
