Gitarist Jeff Parker neemt de rol aan van ‘mad beats professor’ (The Observer) in The New Breed, waarmee hij improvisatiemuziek koppelt aan een hiphop-achtige productiestijl.
Jeff Parker is vooral bekend als jazzgitarist, ‘a master of soulful phrasing, fluent but never flashy (JazzTimes). Dat hij open staat voor alle soorten muziek werd al duidelijk medio jaren 90, toen hij deel ging uitmaken van Tortoise, de invloedrijke post-rockband uit Chicago. Daarnaast bleef hij verbonden aan vooruitstrevende impro-gezelschappen als Isotope 217 en The Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Tegenwoordig woont hij in Los Angeles.
