Hardbop- en souljazz-pianist Harold Mabern kent naar verluidt duizenden liedjes uit zijn hoofd, van standards tot Stevie Wonder. Hij bouwde een prachtige carrière op als sideman van o.a. Lee Morgan, Wes Montgomery en Roy Haynes, met albums op Blue Note en Impulse. Groovejazz-liefhebbers kennen hem van elpees met Stanley Turrentine, waarop hij Fender Rhodes speelt. In het Bimhuis is hij te horen op piano, met zijn eigen trio.
