Volgens flamencogitarist Santiago Lara heeft levende jazzlegende Pat Metheny, zonder dat hij het zelf weet, een onnavolgbare invloed uitgeoefend op de huidige generatie flamencoartiesten. Hoog tijd dus voor een eerbetoon aan zijn idool.
De jonge gitarist uit Jerez de la Frontera koos tien van Metheny’s composities en bracht deze naar de flamenco. Beroemde thema’s als Minuano of James klinken fris en vernieuwend in Lara’s swingende flamencovertolkingen. En wat vindt Metheny er zelf van? ‘I love it … and I am so honored for you to take this music to such an incredible place‘ (Pat Metheny, juni 2015).
